Curricular Activities
CSFA has Nursery, Preschool and Primary School
Nursery
Childhood is a fundamental stage in children's lives, with the first 36 months of life being particularly important for their physical, emotional and intellectual development.
Children's experiences in their first years of life are closely related to the quality of care they receive with experiences that can have a real impact on their future development. Proper care during early childhood brings lifelong benefits.
Aware of these facts, Colégio S. Francisco de Assis ensures that the Nursery is not only a place of custody, protection and care for children, but above all an educational environment that emphasises personal growth and the development of their abilities and skills. It is characterised by a welcoming, affectionate, safe and learning environment, where the child develops globally and harmoniously.
The pedagogical framework adopted is the Pedagogical Guidelines for Day Care, which cover the following areas of child development:
- Well-being and Health: physical and emotional well-being
- Personal and Cultural Identity: self-awareness, self-confidence and sense of belonging
- Communication, languages and cultural practices
- Communication, expression and creativity
- Expression and understanding of oral language
- Mathematical logical thinking and scientific thinking

CSFA has a Breastfeeding Counselor (BC) recognized by UNICEF and the WHO.
A BC helps mothers who want to breastfeed (or already breastfeed), in the most diverse areas: preparing for breastfeeding during pregnancy, explaining its importance and advantages, overcoming initial difficulties and difficulties throughout the journey (latching on, babies' weight development , milk production, milk storage, compatibility in taking medications...), breastfeeding logistics with food introduction, breastfeeding and entry into school, breast milk donation, among many other things... The CSFA BC is also a SOS Breastfeeding Association volunteer. The CSFA accepts and administers breast milk in the Nursery and provides a space for mothers to breastfeed their babies.
Preschool Education (3, 4 and 5 years old)
Working in close partnership with the family and supported by an affective and reassuring relationship with pedagogical teams, Pre-School Education provides a supportive environment where children actively engage in shaping their own development and learning.
Rich and diverse activities are carried out in this area, taking into account the content areas recommended in the New Curricular Guidelines for Pre-School Education. It is also complemented with school-offered subjects that, at CSFA, we consider fundamental for the holistic development of the child.
Within the scope of the bilingual project, introduction to the English Language takes place from the age of 3, as well as the development of personal and social skills taught by a clinical psychologist. Recognising the importance of learning in context and enjoying nature, children have regular activities at Lagoas Park (Learning Outside).

The activity rooms and the variety of available materials promote autonomy and engagement with the physical world, enabling children to construct their own knowledge.
In preschool, the standard day includes individual activities focusing on decisions and achievements, as well as group activities that call for interaction and cooperation. This allows the development of self-regulatory processes of the autonomous self and respect for others.
Working in close partnership with the Family and supported by an affective and reassuring relationship with the Educator, the activities promoted awakes the desire to see, hear, feel, do and be... in a harmonious process of discovery and development in the child.
PRIMARY EDUCATION
At CSFA the Primary Education offers a comprehensive curriculum in Portuguese and English (Cambridge), based on values of academic and personal excellence, making use of interactive methodologies and innovative programs that transform teaching into a unique experience, such as CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and the integration of technology.
Children gain skills and acquire resources to grow up bilingual, curious, responsible, supportive and autonomous and to face the challenges of an ever-changing world, with the confidence necessary to reach their full potential.

AUTONOMOUS WORKING TIME, these are moments of differentiation in teaching and individualized support for students.
From an early age, the aim is to provide students with greater awareness and action in their learning process. At TTA, students are guided by a plan that guides their work throughout the week. This plan contains a list of activities that students can carry out, taking into account their needs and the guidance provided by the teacher. At this time, mutual assistance between students in carrying out their tasks is also valued as a way of promoting cooperation and respect for the work of others.

CITIZENSHIP, SUSTAINABIUTY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
This subject aims to foster an entrepreneurial and sustainable culture in the school community, oriented towards themes and activities that constitute learning opportunities, development of extracurricular skills and
promotion of Civic education and citizenship among students.

ENGLISH, based on the Cambridge curriculum, takes place every day, with different intentions and dynamics, in order to promote taste, knowledge and use of the language, which allows students to communicate confidently in a second language. Three days a week are dedicated to reading, writing and expanding vocabulary, one day dedicated only to conversational dynamics and a weekly Environmental Study class, using the CLIL methodology.
